We support specific, sustainable projects making a real difference, such as supplying clean water and shelter, responding to major catastrophes and contributing to Rotary’s key ‘End Polio’ initiative.
Our club helps internationally through fund raising or directly with practical support on the ground. Members with family roots or contacts in overseas areas, such as Kenya, Nigeria and India, help to identify small-scale local projects and deliver targeted support. We build lasting relationships with the communities involved.
In India, in partnership with the local Rotary Club, we helped fund a much-needed dialysis machine in Chennai.
We shipped Irons and ironing boards donated by RAF crew as they left training for operational duties to support Nigerian communities, together with other useful items. This enabled rural and sometimes locally ostracised families grow skills and business opportunities.
Empowering the girl child
In Africa we helped through entrepreneurship skills in catering, dress making and similar skills, making a difference to young girls affected by Vesico – Vaginal Fistula ( VVF) and also girls stigmatised due to Leprosy.
Smaller projects, like a summer camp and clothing in Kenya, have a real impact in rural areas, particularly for young women and girls. The Nigerian project which helped supply cookers to a school, empowering women through entrepreneurship in catering and food hygiene, saw the handing over ceremony on Nigerian TV
